Tom's House
Just a short walk away from Olidia's house was the house of Luz Marina where I lived. She, her husband Jose and their three young children were wonderful hosts. Luz Marina stayed home during the day while her husband Jose worked repairing and building roofs. In their back yard he had a little cottage industry making concrete blocks. The blocks were neatly stacked to dry in the sun amidst the outhouse and the outdoor shower. Luz Marina fed me every morning a breakfast of either bananas or watermelon. I finally asked her for coffee one morning when I saw everyone else drinking it. They were a great family. One morning Jose and Luz Marina got up at 4:30 in the morning to go to the church to do their part in a all night vigil of reading the gospel. Jose and I talked a lot about the difficulties of the country. I wish I could have been there longer to gain a better understanding of what life was like for them.
